Rachel Filson, LCSW
Counseling & EMDR Therapy

My Approach

I use an integrative approach that considers the role of both mind and body, as I believe neither are fully separate and both are equally important to mental health. Treatment modalities I may use include CBT, EMDR, mindfulness, and holistic coaching. My approach is very client-centered and I believe every client has the right to choose their own treatment path and collaborate together on what that plan looks like.

About me

I am an LGBT+ and neurodiversity affirming therapist based out of Sarasota, FL. I received my Bachelor's in psychology from Stetson University and went on to work in the domestic violence and anti-sex-trafficking fields for several years before returning to school at the University of Southern California for my Master of Social Work with a concentration in Adult Mental Health. I now work in private practice as a licensed clinician providing telehealth therapy services across the states of FL, SC, & VT.

Therapy Sessions

1.

Individual
Talk Therapy

I offer individual talk therapy using a variety of interventions including CBT, psychoeducation, feminist therapy and holistic coaching depending on your unique needs and preferences. I use a neuroscience-informed approach and aim to help you learn how to change the patterns your brain has been making for years that are keeping you stuck. At the same time, I also recognize the importance of  societal and external factors that may be contributing to your mental health and we can explore those together.

2.

Group Therapy
& Workshops

I offer a variety of groups and workshops throughout the year. Group types and times are continuously changing and the best way to learn about any active groups I'm leading is on my Psychology Today page here.

Examples of topics may include: interpersonal and relationship skills, distress coping skills, LGBT+ support, and Celiac disease support.

3.

EMDR
Trauma Therapy

Not every client will benefit from solely talk therapy. For many, past traumas becomes "stuck" in the hippocampus of the brain and can contribute to PTSD symptoms, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and other clinical concerns.

For clients who need to re-process trauma in a way that helps the brain to encode the memory without the intense emotional charge, EMDR may be a perfect fit.

The following are some of my specialty areas:

1.

Trauma

2.

Self - Esteem

3.

Anxiety

4.

Depression

5.

Maladaptive

Perfectionism
